About Us

Agape Church Burnaby is a daughter church of Lynn Valley Full Gospel Church in North Vancouver. We are located at Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, Ground Level, 6688 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby.  We are affiliated with the Apostolic Church of Pentecost of Canada (ACOP), which was founded in 1921. The ACOP is a Protestant, Evangelical and Pentecostal fellowship of churches, ministers and ministries. The ACOP is also an international network of ministers and churches providing fellowship, encouragement and accountability in the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Agape Church Burnaby is also a member of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada.

We are notably a multi-racial and intergenerational church. We believe in the ‘Priesthood of all believers’ that every member is a minister and to release as many members of the body into the various ministries and leadership. We are a purpose driven ‘cell-church’. God has given us a vision to bring the Gospel from North Vancouver to Burnaby and beyond by planting a church that will reach others and develop the full potential of each believer.

This church began when the Lord spoke to Matthew and Winnie Low’s hearts on October 1, 2004 to plant a church in Burnaby. This was further confirmed in the hearts of the elders and leadership of the mother church (after much prayer) about planting a daughter church in Burnaby.

We welcome you to join in the exciting journey in what the Lord will do in and through Agape Church Burnaby in the days ahead.

CORE VALUES OF AGAPE CHURCH BURNABY

 We value:

  • INTIMACY WITH GOD (both personally and corporately-love God passionately)

(Matt 22:37-38) Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment.

Therefore, we will encourage personal devotion & practice of spiritual discipline and corporate worship.

  • HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP (both with the church body and the community)

(Matt 22:39)  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Therefore, we will provide opportunities for meeting together through cell groups etc, and to participate in communal events to connect with the community.

  • SPIRITUAL MATURITY (so we have the character of Jesus)

(Rom 8:29) For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Therefore, we will have on-going discipleship through preaching, teaching, cell groups and mentoring.

  • EMPOWERING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (We can do nothing without Him)

(Zechariah 4:6) So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.

(Acts 1:8)  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea andSamaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Therefore, we will make room for the gifts and ministry of the Holy Spirit to beexercised and our lives to be empowered and governed by the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, we will make room for the gifts and ministry of the Holy Spirit to be exercised and our lives to be empowered and governed by the Holy Spirit.

  •  MULTICULTURAL FOCUS (God loves all people)

(John 3:16) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Therefore, we will accept all people regardless of nationality, culture and background.

  •  MULTIPLICATION (of leaders, cell groups and church) (Gen 1:22; Acts 2:47)

(Genesis 1:22) God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”

(Acts 2:47) Praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Therefore, we will have on-going leadership training and mentoring, plant and multiply cell groups and churches.

  •  LOST PEOPLE (Lost people matters to God, therefore, they should matter to the church)

(Matt 28:18-20) 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Therefore, we will intentionally reach out to the community in Burnaby and beyond with the love of God for the salvation of their souls.

  • To disciple every believer into maturity in Christ and to be effective in the service of God through the various discipleship and equipping courses and the ministry of the Care Cell Groups.
  • To grow and multiply cell groups and plant churches.

OUR STRATEGY/METHOD

Agape ChurchBurnaby is a Cell-Based Church

The primary participation of each member within the church is the context of the care cell group. Cells are the central focus.  The care cell group is a gathering of believers to Welcome each other, to Worship God, to hear God’s Word, and to do His Works.  We call this the Four Ws. It forms a community where believers are nurtured, equipped to serve and called to care and pray for one another.

The threefold purpose of the care cell group is to grow in our love for God, to encourage, strengthen each other and to reach out to the lost with the Good News about Jesus Christ
